The British Lawnmower
Museum
Lancashire, United KingdomWhat kind of lawnmower does
Prince Charles use? What about Vanessa Feltz? The British Lawnmower Museum not only has
the answers, but also has their actual lawnmowers on display as part of
their Lawnmowers of the Rich and Famous exhibit!
In addition, it has the first Atco, Ransome and Greens lawnmowers
(for those who know what they are), the water-cooled "Egg Boiler" lawnmower, and
a captivating exhibit of snow scooter and outboard motors powered by lawnmower engines. We
could go on and on...for example, about the unique collection of restored garden machinery
or about names we don't ordinarily associate with lawnmowers like Perkins Diesel. But why
ruin the fun of discovering for yourself? Rest assured, the British Lawnmower Museum is
indeed a great, possibly the greatest, (and probably the only) lawnmower museum.
Getting There: downtown
Lancashire, on the corner of Shakespeare St. and Duke St. (And it's conveniently located
just across the street from Discount Mower Warehouse Stanleys, should you get the urge to
buy your own lawnmower.)
Shopping: Gift shop located in the museum, packed
with fun buys, from postcards of your favorite lawnmowers to spare parts for vintage
lawnmowers, from a video or DVD entitled "Lawnmowerworld" to our favorite
the Toy Flymo Wheeled Mower (Electric). (Toy lawnmower collectors, you're in for a real
treat: The museum also boasts the largest toy lawnmower collection in the world!)
Interesting Trivia: The lawnmower was invented
by Edwin Beard Budding in 1830 it's this sort of fun fact you'll learn in the
guided tour.

Cultural History of the
Hand Museum (Museum Kulturgeschichte der Hand)
Wolnzach, GermanyHow many times have you said, "I
wish I could go to a hand museum... Specifically a museum devoted to the cultural
examination of hands?"
Your search has ended.
Happily for you, there is a museum entirely devoted to the hand in
Wolnzach, Germany (a city, population 10,000, mainly known for hops-growing and hops
research.)
The museum began as a private collection by local businessman
Norbert Nemetz. A German ethnologist culled through the massive collection and selected
choice pieces for inclusion in the museum, including coins, toys, jewelry, and stamps. The
museum now contains over 800 hand-related objects. Among them are such gripping exhibits
as famous photos featuring hands (Mr. Spock giving the Vulcan salute, Winston Churchill
flashing a V for Victory sign, and Napoleon scratching an itch with his hand)
Rumors that a companion foot museum is planned are just that:
rumors.
Getting There: The city is in the Pfaffenhofen
district, located between Munich and Inglestadt..
Shopping: If you want a quick bite, there's a restaurant on
the building terrace. We hear they serve finger food...
Nearby is the rather daunting but well-known Hvg hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft E.G.
go here for all of your beer-brewing needs.
Interesting Trivia: Wolnzach recently
welcomed another notable museum: the German Hops Museum, which is considered one of the
more important hops-related institutions, and is wholly devoted to that most important
grain.
